Silk Stockings (SS), believes that the key ingredient for healthy rapport is to possess a strong communicative relationship. For young people living in single parent homes and men & women coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, SS’s goal is to create connections by matching individuals with volunteers that will produce a caring and supportive relationship. SS makes it possible for many to have mentors, and for many more families to enjoy all the benefits of life through mentoring. The program, while unique gives each person the power to choose, while looking at the possibilities, and decide on the best road to take by recognizing their options and making informed decisions to get their needs met. SS takes the guesswork out of finding help, and ultimately becomes what is needed. We support the caregivers and make them feel comfortable choosing SS based on individual needs and styles.
Silk Stockings, prides itself on being able to provide resources and an environment that produces positive reinforcement in the areas of goal planning, job skills, education, and outreach activities. Silk Stockings treats each person as an individual, while supporting his/her needs. Through a community setting, SS's focus is on identifying the issues and creating momentum to make changes, thus building communities of families that empower women, men, and young adults from disadvantage backgrounds, or single parent homes.
